About the Librarian:

Carey Fay-Horowitz joined the PCS staff as the Library Media Specialist in 2019, soon after moving with her family to Vermont from Oakland, CA. Before arriving at PCS, she was a 1st grade teacher, and before that, she founded and ran a nonprofit called Bay Area Girls Rock Camp.

Carey's Philosophy Statement:

"I believe that all students have a right to an equitable education that reflects and respects the diversity of their backgrounds and experiences. To this end, I aim to create a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment for students to access a wide range of materials and information, and to collaborate with teachers to create more avenues for access. I strive to make personal connections with each of my students, and to encourage students to seek out the library for resources, engaging literature, and a comfortable place to read and relax."

About the Library:

The PCS library is a spacious, light-filled room located in the middle school wing between the music room and the art room. Its windows look out onto the school garden, and beyond that, the 160-acre school forest. The library has a collection of over 12,000 resources, including books, periodicals, audiobooks, DVDs and ebooks. The library also has a collection of technological devices for students to use at school, including iPads, Kindles, movie-making equipment and a green screen.

Students attend weekly 40-minute library classes focused on literature appreciation, library navigation skills, information literacy, and digital literacy. Students are also invited to visit the library at any point during the week to read, browse or conduct research.
